Mercy Hospice raises a tasty sum

Golf and dinner with John Key - $15,000, dinner with one of Auckland's top chefs - $13,000, exclusive London experience - $20,000, raising more than $200,000 net profit for Mercy Hospice Auckland - priceless.

The Hospice is celebrating after its annual brunch event '10, A Celebration of Tastes' raised a new all time record. The charity event at The Pullman raised more that $200,000 for the hospice. Some 400+ guests bid madly for the hospice, which care for Aucklanders with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Lauraine Jacobs and John Hawkesby brought home the bacon with their private home-cooked dinner for eight which auctioned for $8,000. Lauraine Jacobs was M.C. for the afternoon and Murray Thom was the auctioneer. Fundraising Manager, Sandy McGregor says the success of this event is all thanks to the support received from a huge amount of individuals and companies, the 10 restaurants and wineries involved and the incredible generosity received from guests on the day. The Hospice needs to raise around $2.3 million each year to continue to provide its services to the people of Auckland City free of charge.
