Volunteering can help you gain confidence and develop valuable skills. Whether you’re returning to work, exploring a new direction, or looking to give back, there are opportunities to support your goals.
By volunteering with Mercy Hospice, you’ll be contributing to an important cause. Even a few hours a month helps ensure we can continue providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients and their families.

Mercy Hospice accepts school students for volunteering. Whether students want to complete service hours, Duke of Edinburgh commitments or would just like some retail experience, we can accept school students to volunteer in our retail shops. There are no patient facing opportunities for school students. Students must commit to regular weekly volunteering for six months. A certificate of completion is available with manager approval.
Mercy Hospice relies on volunteers to support the delivery of care and services across Auckland. Each year, volunteers contribute tens of thousands of hours, helping ensure patients and their whānau receive the support they need.
We regularly welcome organisations to Mercy Hospice for Corporate Volunteer Days. Since kicking off in August 2024, workplace groups have created, connected, and learned about the important work of hospice.
Corporate volunteers get to be creative, making butterflies out of beads and wire. These are part of our Bereavement Service and are sent to families who have lost a loved one under our care. They also make candles using donated glass vessels which are then sold in our For Mercy retail stores.
Corporate Volunteers leave Mercy Hospice having helped, give back to their community and take away a greater awareness about the critical role and impact of hospice care.
