David Boyes

David Boyes combines his financial services and technology background with a passion for helping organisations through change. He takes a practical, down-to-earth approach to governance, strategy, and long-term success.

Una Diver

Una Diver is a People Advisory Services Partner at Ernst & Young. She specialises in remuneration and reward for employees and executives. Una has governance experience in the charitable sector, across housing and social services.

Kate Donley

Kate is an experienced governance professional with strong strategy and leadership skills across a number of industries including health, not-for-profit and aged care. Beginning her career in the corporate world, she now commits her commercial skills and experience for social good, with a special focus on those with no voice. At the board table Kate builds great relationships which drive authentic discussion and she is a chartered member of the Institute of Directors.

Dr Jim Kriechbaum

Dr Jim Kriechbaum is a General Practitioner and partner at Mt Wellington Family Health Centre. He has a part time role at Te Toka Tumai Auckland where he is Primary Care Director.

Dr Rocio Figueroa Alvear

Dr Rocio Figueroa Alvear is a Peruvian Catholic Theologian, Lecturer in Systematic Theology at the Catholic Theological College in Auckland. She has a bachelor’s degree and license in theology from the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Lima and her doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. She has previously lectured and worked in Peru, Italy, and Mexico. She worked in the Holy See as head of the Women’s section in the Pontifical Council for the Laity. Figueroa’s present research focus is theological and pastoral responses for survivors of Church sexual and spiritual abuse.

Pat Snedden

Pat has extensive governance experience in a diverse range of industries including housing, education and health sector.  He is committed to tackling social justice issues and inequality in New Zealand.

Julia Van de Coolwijk

Julia van de Coolwijk has a background in healthcare including aged care. She is presently GM of Engagement for SPCA, responsible for fundraising, marketing and communications. Julia also has governance experience in the Education sector.

Mark Watson

Mark Watson is a dedicated healthcare leader with extensive experience in public and private surgical hospital management. His leadership emphasises collaboration, patient-centred care and operational excellence to support Mercy Hospice’s mission of providing comfort and dignity to those in need.

Executive Assistant

Hannah Ekperuoh is the Executive Assistant to the CEO which also supports the ELT team. Hannah has over 12 years of experience in legal, healthcare, and hospitality settings. With a passion for community work and events, Hannah is excited to be part of Mercy Hospice’s mission.

Emma Maddren

Chief Executive Officer

Emma has over 30 years’ experience in the health sector, uniting both business and clinical experience to transform private and public healthcare services. Her career-long commitment to patient and whānau-centred healthcare is evident through her involvement in a wide range of national change and improvement initiatives, senior leadership positions at Starship Hospital, Te Toka Tumai (formerly Auckland DHB) and a career-long commitment to supporting and developing others to achieve a common purpose.

Lisa Middelberg

Director Clinical, Equity & Outcomes

Lisa has 25 years of clinical, operational and people leadership in New Zealand healthcare.

Her skillset brings expertise in empowering clinical teams and is committed and passionate about working with people to create strong, patient/client-focused services that enable individuals and teams to do their best work every single day. Lisa is passionate about innovative change, building strong relationships to breed success. Her focus is also to actively reduce health inequity for priority patient populations. She is warm and engaging and loves the Mercy Hospice people and culture.

Hera Pierce

Pou Atawhai

Hera’s passion is pakiwaitara / mythical stories that hold the Mātauranga / wisdom of her Tūpuna / ancestors and Mokopuna / grandchildren, held and told by Wahine Māori. She acknowledges how Mana Wahine and Tangata Whenua hold the power of contentment and social order within whānau, hapu, and the importance of He whakapapa tou He tuakiri ano tou / reclaiming and understanding the importance of knowing one’s whakapapa / genealogy.

Paula Seymour

Director Operations

Paula has over 25 years of experience in operational and people leadership. She is known for leading diverse teams, managing complex contracts and funding streams, and driving strategic initiatives from planning to execution. Paula brings a strong focus on process improvement, stakeholder engagement, and patient journey mapping to deliver sustainable outcomes.
